MathWorks’ MATLAB

MathWorks’ MATLAB software is a very useful technology for use in education. MATLAB is defined by its creating company as a “high-level language and interactive environment that enables you to perform computationally intensive tasks faster than with traditional programming languages such as C, C++, and Fortran.” This is useful for anyone needing math help with anything from simple adding to high-order repeating sequences. The user creates what basically amounts to a computer program to do whatever computational task at hand.

I personally have used MATLAB in a few of my math courses here at the university. In some of the higher level courses MATLAB can be your best friend when in need of help for hard math problems. If I were an instructor I would have students use it so that they could learn to develop useful algorithms and more easily analyze and visualize the data that they would be dealing with. Also as a student, one could take it upon themselves to learn to use this software to assist themselves in their computational learning endeavors.

Intuit’s Quicken Home & Business software is another useful technology. It simplifies the task of running a home-business by doing most of the work for you. Its user can most often plug in fewer numbers and spend less time dealing with paperwork than doing things the traditional way. This is a big plus for anyone trying to get started or even someone who is trying to save time and money. It takes in your business numbers, crunches them, and gives you what you need to see to put things in a clearer more concise viewing format in a very user friendly time.

Implementing this software is much more simple than is could seem, especially if you are already accustomed to running a home business. You can choose what exactly you want it to help you with from a long list of tasks such as bill paying, banking, investing, or even taxes. After choosing what you want it to assist you with and your financial information, managing those finances are almost as easy as a few clicks a day.

Apple's Remote Application

Apple’s Remote Application, or application, is a very simple and easy to use technology. It allows a person to control media wirelessly through either the Apple iTouch or the iPhone. Successfully installing this free app from the application store and setting it up takes only a couple seconds. It works by using Apple’s Bonjour service to interface the remote device to your computer, thus allowing you to play music remotely through a speaker system. After ensuring that both your iTouch/iPhone and Laptop/Desktop are connected to the same network inputting a simple 4-digit pass code into iTunes on your computer is all it takes to connect.

A user could implement this technology in many ways. The most common way is most likely someone just sitting at home. This application allows a user to control the music wirelessly as far as the network range allows. Using this technology could do anything from allowing a DJ to roam a club to allowing a student control music while studying in another room.
